- phakinin
-
Eye-lens specific protein, 47 kD, that co-assembles with filensin (3 phakinin molecules per filensin) to form beaded-chain intermediate filaments. Phakinin has very strong sequence homology with cytokeratins but lacks the rod domains that are involved in filament formation. It is effectively a tail-less intermediate filament protein.
